Casa Batlló wins the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Award
The award recognizes the good practices of Casa Batlló to promote the sustainability of cultural heritage in the environmental, economic, and social fields
Today we are happy to announce an award that recognizes the good practices for years to be a sustainable heritage and promote responsible tourism in our city. The award mainly highlights all the actions that help preserve Casa Batlló and make its heritage known, such as:
-Technological innovations to conserve, manage and appreciate the universal value of Antonio Gaudí’s work with a clear vision towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
-The continuous conservation work of Casa Batlló and especially the latest restorations carried out (facade, stucco, and decorative elements).
-The close collaboration with local artisans, the protagonists of our restorations, and the creators of numerous products and artworks sold at our Store.
-The dissemination through an emotional narrative of this Gaudí masterpiece to audiences worldwide and of all ages, combining extraordinarily the analog and the digital.
-The commitment with educational institutions to train new local and international professionals (Louvre School, La Soborna University, KU Leuven, Barcelona University, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Pompeu Fabra University).
-Our support towards research with the publication of articles, collaboration with researchers, participation in international meetings on Heritage, Gaudí, and Tourism, and inviting researchers to visit the House.
-The implementation of internal initiatives to reduce plastic consumption, promote recycling and waste reduction, and extend sustainable practices to workers’ and collaborators’ homes.
Furthermore, sustainability is a broad concept that also includes social initiatives. Among them, we especially highlight:
-We are committed to autism, given that we are the first cultural entity that hires a team of neurodivergent people to attend to visitors.
-We constantly collaborate with local and international NGOs such as UNICEF, Amnesty International, Payasos sin Fronteras, Barraquer Foundation, Banc dels Aliments, Banc de Sang, Arrels…
-We light up our facade to shed light on and help bring awareness to designat days (World AIDS Day, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, etc.).
The prize is awarded by the Consorci de Turisme de Barcelona, the managing organization, together with Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, of the Barcelona Biosphere Commitment to Sustainable Tourism.
