Casa Batlló achieves the Biosphere Certificate as Sustainable Heritage

After joining the Biosphere program in 2019, Casa Batlló achieves the certificate that recognizes its good practices in sustainability.

Since Casa Batlló opened its doors to the public, it has been committed to its social, environmental and economic surroundings. In order to amplify, accelerate and audit its practices in sustainability, in 2019 it joined the Biosphere program, achieving in 2020 the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism award, being the only World Heritage Site to achieve it.

Today this process culminates with obtaining the Biosphere Certificate that ratifies that Casa Batlló has a solid sustainability plan and good practices reviewed each year by an audit team. At a general level, the different areas of action include:

Environment and Climate Change
By favoring lower water consumption, adopting energy efficiency measures, applying responsible production and consumption criteria and reducing the impact of our activity on biodiversity.

Society and Culture
Promoting social and economic growth in our environment, developing educational programs, promoting gender equality and encouraging the conservation of local cultural and natural heritage.

Governance and economy
Adopting measures to prevent food waste, protecting the labor and equality rights of its workers and facilitating the work-life balance and employment of disadvantaged groups.

Today, our commitment continues with new initiatives, intensifying existing ones and taking on the responsibility of auditing our management at the three levels of sustainability: social, environmental and economic.
