Antoni Gaudí: inspiration for filmmaking

What is the head of the designer of an imaginary world in which a Disney movie is developed? What the experts look up in the selection of film locations? Although it may seem unusual, cinema has been inspired many times by the works of Antoni Gaudí to create literary contexts.

It is well known the influence that the genius Gaudí has had since leaving the legacy of his works in creative minds of all kinds of artistic disciplines. Especially the cinema has borrowed numerous references to the architecture of Gaudí to create the context of some films such as “Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona” by Woody Allen. Although animated films also were encouraged to provide Gaudí spirit some of his works as “Rompe Ralph” or the mythical “Casper” placing the very young Cristina Ricci in the Noble Floor of Casa Batlló while talking with some funny ghosts.

Currently the Seventh Art is in luck. This weekend the 29th edition of the Goya Awards of Spanish cinema will be celebrated and also the 7th edition of the Gaudí Awards has just been given, where the film “Rastres Sandal”, set partly in Barcelona, has won the statuette for the best movie. Beyond the exceptional forms and chromatics, Casa Batlló also inspires by his strong Mediterranean identity, being the objective of Maria Ripoll feature film. In one of the scenes of the film, Casa Batlló, shines as part of the subjective look of the main character, in his walk through Paseo de Gracia, while her thoughts flow into the thread of the film.
