Casa Batllo Celebrates the International Day of World Heritage
Each November 16th International World Heritage Day is celebrated, a day set in place in 1972, when the Convention of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was signed in Paris.
Gaudí´s, undisputed creative genius has the honor of having a total of seven pieces of work in the list of World Heritages. Of the possible ten points of criteria that UNESCO has established in order to grant the designation of “World Heritage”, seven of Gaudi´s buildings were included that met three points of the criteria:
-Criterion (i): The work of Antoni Gaudí represents an exceptional and outstanding creative contribution to the development of architecture and building technology in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
-Criterion (ii): Gaudí’s work exhibits an important interchange of values closely associated with the cultural and artistic currents of his time, as represented in el Modernisme of Catalonia. It anticipated and influenced many of the forms and techniques that were relevant to the development of modern construction in the 20th century.
-Criterion (iv): Gaudí’s work represents a series of outstanding examples of the building typology in the architecture of the early 20th century, residential as well as public, to the development of which he made a significant and creative contribution.
The inclusion of a property on the World Heritage List is a recognition and appreciation of the international community and it is precisely this day, which aims to bring the knowledge of these cultural treasures and natural wealth to the rest of humanity. As indicated in the Convention of World Heritage, to protect an asset it is important that it becomes well known and appreciated. Therefore it is key to make an effort to disseminate, hence the importance of an adequate dissemination for that heritage in all areas, not only locally, but also in a more global way, thanks to digital channels.
On behalf of Casa Batllo, and specifically on our profile on Twitter @CasaBatlloGaudi, we join the celebration by giving away two tickets to this magical World Heritage which this year celebrated the incredible mapping “Awakening of the Dragon” and 10 years enrolled in UNESCO.
