"Antoni Gaudí Barcelona" exposition reaches Moscou

Casa Batlló, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, Palau Güell and Colonia Guell together to bring the heritage of Gaudí beyond our borders

Just as it is difficult to imagine the city of Moscow without thinking of the architect Fyodor Schechtel, known for his unique use of colours and contrasts and his innovation in the field of architecture, it is impossible to talk about Barcelona without mentioning Gaudí.

And now the works of Gaudí will be visiting Russia, because from 22 May until 10 September of 2017 the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) will be hosting the exhibition entitled “Antoni Gaudí Barcelona”.

This display is sponsored by theGovernment of Catalonia’s Department of Culture and theSpanish Embassy in Moscow, and curated by Áurea Cultura i Art. It includes a total of 123 pieces and over 40 photographs, to offer an educational overview that perfectly illustrates the work and career of the architectural genius Antoni Gaudí.

This same exhibition was already displayed during 2015 and 2016 in three cities in Korea, where it had more than 300,000 visitors, and following this success a decision was made to take it to Russia as well. This has also been the starting point for the creation of another unprecedented initiative: for the first time, five of the seven most iconic works of Gaudí, together declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be united with the goal of bringing the architect’s work in contact with the people of Russia. Efforts to promote this cultural exchange in Moscow are being jointly carried out by Casa Batlló, Casa Milá, Casa Vicens, Colonia Güell and Palau Güell.

Although the idea began as a private initiative developed by these cultural landmarks, interest in the project spread further and now the invaluable support and experience of the Agencia Catalana de Turisme and Barcelona Turisme have been added as well. These two tourism entities will provide essential logistical and commercial assistance to help ensure the success of this project.

Gaudi en Rusia

The activities planned will take place on 6 July in the city of Moscow, in the form of an event where the five cultural sites mentioned will be represented, along with participation from the top tour operators and most important travel agencies in the Russian market.    On that same date, an exclusive joint visit to the exhibition will take place, followed by a networking dinner featuring the Catalan chef Angel Pascual, who has been awarded two Michelin stars. This event will represent a great opportunity to develop commercial, cultural, and institutional synergies.

At Casa Batlló we firmly believe that it will be possible to develop more initiatives of this type during 2018, the European Year of Cultural Heritage, with Gaudí as the driving force and inspiration for other artists and professionals from industries linked to culture and tourism, in order to provide high-profile, international exposure to the cultural heritage of the city of Barcelona, and of Catalonia as a whole.
