CASA BATLLÓ: A JOURNEY INTO THE MIND OF GAUDÍ

We present a long list of new features and 2,000 sqm of museum route never seen before.

GAUDÍ DÔME: « The inspiration of the genius », by Miguel Alonso.

How to explain a genius creation? What inspired him? What was his background?

An immersive room with more than 1000 screens receives the visitor to introduce him to the origins of geniality of Gaudí. ‘Gaudí Dôme’ offers a unique space for disconnection, an authentic red carpet which allows to immerse themselves in the origin of a genius. An origin that deals, since he was a child, in his particular relationship with nature. It is the best welcome to the universe that inspired Gaudí, and it is accompanied by an sound proposal that has 21 audio channels that recreate the sounds of nature, and 38 projectors that flood this videoart installation with magic using volumetric projections.

Located in the old coal cellars of the building, « The inspiration of the genius » offers a show of expressions and audiovisual sensations. Created by the audiovisual producer Miguel Alonso, it is a sensory expedition, a journey to the birth of the genius and his first encounter with Nature. A vibrant show that makes the visitor participate in the creative experience.

GAUDÍ CUBE: « In the mind of Gaudí », by Refik Anadol

Can you imagine entering Gaudi’s mind and seeing reality with his eyes? Can you imagine being able to understand the forms and structures of nature as he did?

The final surprise of the visit is this immersive installation that presents the first 6-sided LED cube, unique in the world. A pioneering work of engineering in a 100% enveloping space capable of changing the perception of reality and allowing the impossible. A unit designed exclusively for Casa Batlló that uses a technology ahead of its time and whose expressive capacity allows to transmit unique sensations and feelings to anyone.

This magic cube is inaugurated by the work of Refik Anadol “In the mind of Gaudí”, an immersive installation that invites visitors to discover a myth of architecture from the Catalan architect’s own mind. This project, with rigor as the first requirement and emotion as the final objective, had a first phase of the project which aimed to createthe largest digital library in the world on Gaudí. After a colossal research work and thanks to the use of Artificial Intelligence, Casa Batlló has collected millions of data, files, photos, videos, plans, writings, drawings, 3D models and original manuscripts of the architect that constitute, to date, the largest digital repository on Gaudí.

Advanced machine learning processors have managed to decipher the construction patterns, the biomimetic structures and the design logic that has been hidden among so much information. Allowing the artist Refik Anadol to understand the mark that Gaudí has left on humanity to decipher his mind, imagine his dreams, experience the world through his eyes and discover the inner sanctuary and the genius of an artist surrounded by mystery.

OTHER NEW FEATURES

A new scriptavailable in 15 languages and the soundtrack created exclusively for Casa Batlló by the composer Dani Howard and performed by members of the Berlin Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Deutsche Oper Berlin, conducted by Pablo Urbina.

The new headphones have been designed to empower the visitor and make the content adapt to him. An algorithm interprets the rhythm of each person to offer you a personalized visit and make your tour a unique and unrepeatable experience.

Ecological and invisible technologies give life to different ephemeral installations that the visitor will discover in the House. In them some myths and legends are recreated, as well as memories and anecdotes of the House.

Different architectural interventions stand out which have been a challenge to preserve the safety of the building and its visitors, such as the new vertical communication nucleus designed by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and illuminated by Mario Nanni, who have made this intervention an artwork. Also noteworthy is a floating staircase of 13 tons of polished marble suspended in the air thanks to the development designed by the English studio ‘Ancient & Modern Chesneys Arquitectural’.

Another great new space is ‘Simbòlic’, the new store, with direct access from the street, designed by the interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. ‘Simbolic’ offers a careful selection of objects inspired by Gaudí’s design principles, fusing craftsmanship with innovation.

Casa Batlló recently restored, a trip to the origins

The visitor will see the best version of Casa Batlló, since in 2017 one of the most impressive restorations carried out by the Bernat family since its acquisition in 1995 began. The restoration project has allowed the recovery of the original stuccoes of the Noble Floor, the discovery and reproduction of the wainscoting as well as the recovery of lamps and different decorative elements with full respect for the original architectural work and preserving its authenticity. Finally, it is worth highlighting the restoration of the main façade, which was carried out from January to May 2019 and which involved professionals from 7 different guilds who intervened in it to clean it, restore it and apply different conservation techniques; a particularly complex process due to the use of the 5 materials that compose it (stone, iron, ceramic, glass and wood), each of which required a specific treatment.
