The influence that the works of Antoni Gaudí exercised in the 7th art is evident in numerous films, but the architect and his work have also been involved in several films and documentaries. One is the documentary “Antoni Gaudí” by Hiroshi Teshigahara (1927-2001) produced in 1984 where the Japanese filmmaker enters the spectator in first place, in the wealth of modernist architecture in Catalonia presenting works of Domenech i Montaner and Puig I Cadafalch. And secondly, it focuses on the genius of Reus, showing some of his best known projects as Casa Milà and Parc Güell works but also other works he left Barcelona as Teresianas School or the Casa Vicens.

A film without dialogue where Teshigahara makes the works of Gaudí in the absolute protagonists, but the Japanese in addition to presenting the works of architect also refers to his sources of inspiration. Since the forms of nature to the Montserrat mountain, not to mention the weight of religiosity and Romanesque churches and monasteries. Ninety-seven minutes where Teshigara brings us back to the late twentieth century and discover through the eyes of Teshigahara the different usage and state that many of the buildings had at that time. For example, from the ninth minute, we know the state of the Casa Batllo in 1984, whose ground floor housed at that time the SYRA art gallery opened since 1940. We also discovered the appearance that had the entire façade that deprived all those who looked at it to enjoy the chromatic richness with which Gaudí made it.

The Japanese filmmaker, a great admirer of Gaudí, counted on Joan Bassegoda Nonell’s support (co-author of the book “Light and Color”) for the realization of the documentary.
