The “Drac&Roses” campaign was a resounding success with so many people getting involved

Over 400 blood donors, thanks to Saint George!

The annual festival of Saint George (23 April) is one of Catalonia’s most beautiful celebrations. And what happens when it falls on a Sunday and you join up with the Banc de Sang i Teixits?

From 21 to 23 April Casa Batlló was adorned with roses to celebrar Sant Jordi celebrate Saint Georgethe legend of Saint George lives on at Casa Batlló in the city of Barcelona. The dragon on the roof, the spear Saint George used to pierce the dragon’s spine, and the blood that spilled were brought to life by the roses on the facade and the constant shower of petals in the inner courtyard. This is why we got together with the Banc de Sang i Teixits (Blood and Tissue Bank) to work towards a fantastic cause: blood donation.

428 blood donors came to the Banc of Sang i Teixitis mobile unit that was parked on the corner of Calle Aragó and Paseo de Gracia over the three days. The whole time, the Banc of Sang bus was full of people who wanted to join the cause: every day, 1,000 blood donations are needed across Catalonia. We give a huge thank you to all of you for your voluntary donations!

The people who came in to see the shower of petals inside Casa Batlló and discover how the legend of Saint George lives on inside this gem of modernist architecture were all given a rose, thanks to a collaboration with Flores Navarro.

The “Drac & Roses” campaign also had some important guests, with ten European instagramers invited to take part and learn more about the Saint George celebrations. Over the weekend, as well as visiting Gaudí’s Casa Batlló they went to Casa Amatller de Josep Puig i Cadafalch, and the Palau de la Música de Lluís Domènech i Montaner, where they had the chance to enjoy Beethoven’s Ninth, in a performance from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra. None of this would have been possible without collaboration from the Hotel Alexandra Barcelona, a Double Tree by Hilton, its restaurant Solomillo and the El Nacional restaurant. We thank them all for taking part in the campaign. Of course, thanks to all of you who shared on Instagram the beauty of this action, as after analysing all the repercussion on Instagram we’ve found more than 10,000 the published pictures.
