The facade of Casa Batlló – dreamy, mysterious and symbolic – awakened after one hundred years of sleep to reveal many of the architectural surprises that Antoni Gaudí created as he flexed his creative muscles.

St. George’s dragon crowning the facade, carnival masks in front of the balconies, bats emerging from the gallery of the Noble Floor and a diamond patterned harlequin became alive to astonishcirca 8.000 spectators per day.

However, moving beyond its interpretations, all of those many legends that have been created around Casa Batlló were revealed throughout this show. Casa Batlló is known locally as the house of the bones, the house of the masks, the house of the yawns and the house of the dragon.

Other features such as its Mediterranean traits, Naturalism and water in motion were represented too On Sunday night, the second day of the show, water in the form of a persistant rain gained a strong protagonism , converting the most elegant heart of the city in a sort of a huge umbrella setting.

Audiovisual Mapping Projection

To carry out this project, it took more than 10 months of work. During these months and with the special collaboration of Daniel Giralt Miracle (Commissioner of Gaudi’s International Year 2002), an arduous task of selection and collection of images was accomplished. Also, several scripts were produced to match the different sequences that were used to explain the different legends and symbols that were revealedl during the mapping show.

The Audiovisual Mapping was produced by the production company Nueve Ojos (www.nueveojos.com) under the creative direction of Mariona Omedes (Audiovisual Award by the Government of Catalonia). They used four Christie Roadster projectors Ansilumens 20,000, placed on a layer tower of 12 meters high; 4 Line Arrays for sound, with 4 layer structures of 8 meters each one with an approximate sound power of 24000W.

through hashtag #casabatllo in Instagram in conjunction with the Catalonian Igers (Catalonian Association of Instagrammers). The contest received more than 700 images regarding interpretations

of what might have inspired the brilliant architect when he created such an outstanding facade. The finalists were rewarded with Casa Batlló Store’s exclusive products and tickets for cultural visits.
